History & Origins
Choa Chu Kang is a residential town in the Western Region of Singapore. While it was home to many rubber plantations and kampongs in the past, it has since transformed into a lively residential area with many amenities, including a library, sports complexes and shopping malls.

Housing
The first HDB neighbourhood in Choa Chu Kang was completed in 1977 at Teck Whye Avenue. While the old attap houses and kampongs reminiscent of the old days have long disappeared, the design motifs and features reminiscent of Choa Chu Kang’s rural past bring a touch of nostalgia to the designs of its HDB blocks. Choa Chu Kang has an estimated HDB resident population of 169,000 across 48,900 flats in 7 sub-areas including Keat Hong, Yew Tee and Teck Whye. In addition to the various clusters of HDB estates, Choa Chu Kang is also home to private condominium estates, including Yew Tee residences, Blossom Residences, Northvale Condominium and The Warren Condominium. New launches in the area include projects such as iNz Residence, Wandervale (EC) & Sol Acres.

Transportation & Connectivity
The Choa Chu Kang area is served by 2 MRT stations, namely Choa Chu Kang (NS4/BP1) & Yew Tee (NS5), both of which are situated along the North-South Line. In addition, there is also a Light Rail Transit (LRT) route connecting the Choa Chu Kang district with the Bukit Panjang area. In this regard, Choa Chu Kang is served by 5 LRT stations, namely Ten Mile Junction, South View, Keat Hong, Teck Whye and Phoenix LRT Stations. A total of 18 bus services ply the Chua Chu Kang are, they are 67, 172, 188, 188e, 188R, 190, 300, 301, 302, 307, 925, 927, 974, 975, 983, 985, 991, BPS1 & NR3. A future MRT station, Choa Chu Kang West (JS2) is also scheduled to be built.

Education
There are 8 Primary Schools (Chua Chu Kang Primary School, Concord Primary School, De La Salle School, Kranji Primary School, South View Primary School, Teck Whye Primary School, Unity Primary School & Yew Tee Primary School) & 6 Secondary Schools (Bukit Panjang Government High School, Chua Chu Kang Secondary School, Kranji Secondary School, Regent Secondary School, Teck Whye Secondary School & Unity Secondary School). Choa Chu Kang is also home to Jurong Pioneer Junior College, located in Teck Whye, which is the 2019 amalgamation of Jurong Junior College and Pioneer Junior College. While the school is presently located at the old Pioneer Junior College campus, a new campus will be built at the site of the old Jurong Junior College, which is near the Jurong Lake District, served by the future Jurong Region MRT Line.

Shopping
Residents of Choa Chu Kang enjoy great convenience particularly given the six-storey Lot One Shopping Mall owned by CapitaLand is situated right outside Choa Chu Kang MRT Station. Given its strategic location, it is able to serve residents in Choa Chu Kang, Bukit Batok, Bukit Panjang and Upper Bukit Timah precincts. It is home to a wide variety of F&B outlets, including Ajisen Ramen, BBQ Express and Blackball. In addition, it is a “full-service” mall containing a Shaw Theatres cinema, as well as many retail shops (including Bossini and BHG) and services stores (including AM Aesthetics and ARJ Money Changer). Finally and in view of the fact that it is situated in the heart of a large residential estate, its NTUC Fairprice and NTUC Unity Healthcare allows for its residents to enjoy greater convenience in purchasing groceries and medication/health supplements respectively.

In addition, residents of Choa Chu Kang also enjoy close proximity to Yew Tee Point, a neighbourhood mall situated right outside Yew Tee MRT. Yew Tee Point has NTUC Fairprice and Koufu Food Court as its anchor tenants. Further, its array of F&B outlets such as Eighteen Chefs, Toast Box and Subway allows the residents of Choa Chu Kang and Yew Tee to enjoy delectable cuisines even in a suburban neighborhood.

Recreation & Amenities
Residents of Choa Chu Kang are able to enjoy fitter and healthier lifestyles particularly with the launch of Choa Chu Kang Sports Centre in 2001 which comprises of integrated sports facilities including a sports hall, sports stadium and swimming complex. The Choa Chu Kang Sports Centre is home to the S-League Powerhouse SAF Warriors, host to annual inter-school athletics competitions and a popular hangout place for those who wish to play sports for leisure during the weekends.

Choa Chu Kang is also an ideal location for those who wish to embrace a fitter lifestyle through getting closer to nature. In this regard, Choa Chu Kang Park provides an opportunity for nature lovers to walk among the old fruit tree plantations, enjoy the small stream and enjoy the symphony of birds chirping in the trees. URA Master Plan
URA has announced plans to upgrade Limbang Park & the Green Spine along Choa Chu Kang Drive to include more open spaces, pavilions, covered linkways & heritage sites. A new SAFRA Clubhouse is also being built at Choa Chu Kang Town Park. The URA Plan also sees major infrastructure improvements along Chua Chu Kang Link, Stagmont Ring & Woodlands Road, as well as new residential developments in the Keat Hong area.

  • Blk 308 Choa Chu Kang Avenue 4 is one of Singapore’s smallest HDB blocks.
  • In June 2017, the Chua Chu Kang Town Council engaged residents of Block 1 to 7 Teck Whye Lane to vote for their preferred colour scheme to do Repairs & Redecoration (R&R) works, which takes place every 7 years. 75% of voters chose the Piet Mondrian inspired theme.
